I actually spent a few days hacking at the code for my private server’s use. BiblioCraft, as it exists on that server, now has the following improvements regarding paintings:
- Loads paintings (and painting data) only on demand, on a painting-by-painting basis
- Support for pack-provided thumbnails for paintings
- Sorted painting list
- Much-improved painting loading and rendering time
- Aspect ratio detection for custom paintings works more often
- At least one new crash, including one I can’t easily fix without the original code (but that has an easy workaround, and is a trivial fix with the original code), and one that I’m only about 25% sure exists but I have never run into (and am too lazy to test for)
On my private server, this code has been heavily tested, and works swimmingly even with over 300 very high-resolution paintings. I have been careful to maintain my changes in a form that makes communicating those changes not too difficult. I’d love to provide them, so these improvements can be included in BiblioCraft itself. I couldn’t find a way to contact NucHaz with just a few minutes of Googling, though.
